The Art of Empty Spaces

October 13, 2018 @ 8:00 am - October 18, 2018 @ 12:00 pm

Space is a preoccupation for artists: is there enough space to develop work and will there be somewhere to present it? The question of space is also a concern for arts organisations in the city as re-development plans move forward.  The contribution of the CET Building to the arts in Coventry prompts a timely re-imagining and consideration of what alternative spaces may be able to receive works of art. But there are practical and organisational constraints and challenges that artists and organisations face in seeking to realise this potential.  Artist John Hammersley invites you to participate in an online conversation-as-artwork on the theme of ‘The Art of Empty Spaces’.  The conversation will kick off on Saturday 13 October with John in conversation with Neil Wilkes on The Coventry Culture Show, Touch FM 96.2FM and then continue on our website – www.coventry-artspace.co.uk until Thursday 18 October 9pm.

Dr John Hammersley is an artist, lecturer and researcher. His practice explores ideas of place, landscape and how particular sites shape the meanings we collectively make of artworks through conversations. John is a trustee of Artspace, lecturer on the graphic design course at Coventry University; a founding member of the artist research network The Dialogic, and RE:Coventry, and the city’s creative place-making initiative as part of the UK Urban Rooms network.
