First Thursday Artist Meeting

A circle of introductions was carried out whereby the artists present this month introduced themselves and talked a little about their practice, which spanned a wide range of disciplines including painting, photography, filmmaking, graphic design and installation.

Mindy updated the group on current Artspace activities including mellisandre varin’s Spring residency at Arcadia, success in the ACE bid which means Artspace is now funded for the next 12 months of events including running an Artist Development program, the return of Speedy Crits, the Artist On My Street initiative and the upcoming recruitment of a Project Lead to lead on this project.

There was also discussion around:

• Artspace vacating the Row in 2020 and conversations with the council about occupying other spaces, and the plans for the Arts Council to use the empty IKEA building
• Upcoming events including Art in the Park Leamington (7-8th August) and Warwickshire Open Studios
• Sherrie informed the group that she is looking for a space to do some filming – bright, clear and accessible with a white wall – also looking for a ceramic urinal to use in this project.
