funeral of normativity
February 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Does Valentine’s day need to be cheesy?
If your answer is no, you are invited to follow melissandre de-placing their latest installation ‘post-Covid’ across the city.
Head over to our Facebook Page at 11am.
Funeral of Normativity is a performance for/with camera re-imagining a ‘post-covid’ Afro presence in the city, exploring notions of consumption, closed art venues, and collective grief and healing. Levitating at the intersection of pain and love, melissandre uses the current context of a never coming ‘post-Covid’ and an ever awaited Afro revolution as starting points. They assemble embodied transitions felt in their flesh, navigating Other’s ways to be in the public space, to (r)evolve as Black/queer, and to transition from dominant narratives to a space of abundance.
Project funded and supported by Coventry Artspace and Coventry Biennial.
