About our guests
Caitriona Dunnett is an Irish artist based in the UK. Her practice is influenced by past summers spent in Irish and Scottish landscapes. Following grassy roads, discovering untamed expanses, exploring abandoned homes and old graveyards, has led to an appreciation of the land and the people who shaped it.
Dunnett has been using contemporary techniques, converting digital files into contact negatives to create handcrafted prints. Her practice explores memory. She is intrigued by the traces people leave behind, the paths they weave through time and the legacies attached to them.
Anneka French is an artist, writer, editor and curator based near to Birmingham, UK. Text forms the core of Anneka’s artistic practice. Works are often autobiographical and concerned with places and people. New research is enabling experimental writing and research that layer found text, oral histories, interviews, anecdotes, poetry and short fiction. Her current work considers the vignette in terms of its connections to family, motherhood and post-industrial landscape.
Anneka’s wider practice also includes curatorial work and art journalism for publications such as Art Quarterly, Photomonitor and a-n news.
About Speedy Crits
Each Speedy Crit session takes 45 mins – 1 hour and consists of a 5 minute presentation from an artist. This is followed by a discussion between the artist and the industry mentor about their current work in progress. Participants are then invited to ask questions and/or join the discussion if they wish. It’s a great way to find out more about an artist’s work and gain an insight into career development in the art world.
