Join us for our final Speedy Crits session where w Join us for our final Speedy Crits session where we’re looking forward to welcoming artist Catriona Dunnet who will present her work to industry mentor Anneka French.

Thursday 2nd June

5-6pm (online)

About our guests

Caitriona Dunnett is an Irish artist based in the UK. Her practice is influenced by past summers spent in Irish and Scottish landscapes. Following grassy roads, discovering untamed expanses, exploring abandoned homes and old graveyards, has led to an appreciation of the land and the people who shaped it.

Dunnett has been using contemporary techniques, converting digital files into contact negatives to create handcrafted prints. Her practice explores memory. She is intrigued by the traces people leave behind, the paths they weave through time and the legacies attached to them.

Anneka French is an artist, writer, editor and curator based near to Birmingham, UK. Text forms the core of Anneka’s artistic practice. Works are often autobiographical and concerned with places and people. New research is enabling experimental writing and research that layer found text, oral histories, interviews, anecdotes, poetry and short fiction. Her current work considers the vignette in terms of its connections to family, motherhood and post-industrial landscape.

Anneka’s wider practice also includes curatorial work and art journalism for publications such as Art Quarterly, Photomonitor and a-n news.

About Speedy Crits

Each Speedy Crit session takes 45 mins - 1 hour and consists of a 5 minute presentation from an artist. This is followed by a discussion between the artist and the industry mentor about their current work in progress. Participants are then invited to ask questions and/or join the discussion if they wish. It's a great way to find out more about an artist's work and gain an insight into career development in the art world.

About the Project

Artist On My Street was inspired by artists all over the world who found ways to bring moments of connection, relief and hope to people in their neighbourhood during long days of Lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions by sharing work in their windows and locality.

The ECHOES audio app was used to enable anyone seeing an artwork to hear the artist speak about their practice and the piece they had created for Artist On My Street. The recordings will all be played in the exhibition at Arcadia.
