January First Thursday Meeting
At the January First Thursday Artist Meeting we were delighted to welcome Anneka French, curator at Coventry Biennial. Anneka gave an update on research, plans and progress towards the 2021 Biennial titled HYPER-POSSIBLE. These include recapping on the 3 historic starting points (Art & Language, Blk Art Group, Cybernetic Culture Research Unit) and outlining some of the research sub-themes within these e.g. Homes and Other Habitats and Do It Yourself, both recent Communiqué titles. Anneka re-iterated the artists announced so far. These are a mixture of local, national and international artists: Ayo Akingbade, Ryan Christopher, Faye Claridge, Laura Dicken, Georgiou & Tolley, Grace Ndiritu, Alan Van Wijgerden, melissandre varin and Duncan Whitley, working across a range of art forms and across multiple venues. Communiqué Five will be launched on 21.01.21 and will include 21 new announcements on funding success, venues, commissions and will introduce a number of additional artists participating. More information can be found on www.coventrybiennial.com
The group also discussed their own activities and challenges during the new lockdown and the following links were shared:
