This week for World Wellbeing Week we are sharing This week for World Wellbeing Week we are sharing the work of @taiyewoajose_ following the workshop she attended with us in partnership with @outsidein_uk exploring @compton_verney Folk Art Collection

⠀
For this project, TAIYEWO coined the idea of a Pharma-City deriving from the word pharmacy, where nature acts a a drug to its' inhabitants; and making a direct link to the Farm City project and ISEDA + other links relating the conceptual ideology through personally selected artworks from the collection from both Compton Verney and Outside-In. The latter organisation places a focus on ‘naive art’ which stems at the root of Pharma-City as the term itself was created from a childlike and imaginative stance. In addition to this, the works of Coventry in Colour are also on display as the postcards were made by ordinary people. In a similar fashion to the observed Folk Art Collection at Compton Verney and the art genre, ‘Outsider art’. Ajose comments that she was honoured to be able to reinforce the idea within the professional Arts sector that all levels of art can be displayed together.
⠀⠀
Here, the notion of seeking nature within the surroundings of a city is presented again but to act as further indication that it is not exclusive to a single region. As within the earlier stages of Art of Curation course, when the group explored the art collections, the group’s regional focus was solely placed onto Coventry and Warwickshire. As a London-native, it was important for Ajose to mimic the London Underground map for the background display to act as a futuristic approach towards the project interpretation, and as a visual metaphor for connectivity, roots, guidelines, and to reinforce that nature is accessible to every being on Mother Earth.
Ana Jesus @anajeez_ attended our Art of Curation W Ana Jesus @anajeez_ attended our Art of Curation Workshop with Roo Dhissou @roodhissou back in April which explored the Virk Collection (thanks to Hardish Virk @deeshcreates).

She has written up an account of her experience of this workshop for the Artspace Blog.

She is a nature lover and has strong interests in different cultures, languages, and contrasts of lives. She has many hobbies, painting and music are on the top of the list.

She takes inspirations from nature and people. Her paintings and works have strong contrasts and vibrant colours. Mongrel Works @tammywoodrow and Mary Partridge Op Mongrel Works @tammywoodrow and Mary Partridge

Open Wed 15th – Saturday 25th June, Arcadia
12 – 4pm
(except Fri 17th and Sun 19th June).

Two conceptual women artists (Mary Partridge and Tammy Woodrow) have started an experimental dialogue through their 2D works. These hybrid art conversations start life as an initial presentation of scrap of material/sketch/redundant work to the other. These elements then get re-worked and evolve into a hybrid. The new pieces are multi-layered with meaning, capturing the ideas of 2 artists in one creation. This process of collaboration also aims to document contemporary working practices by conceptual women artists and between them. Arcadia will be used as an exhibition space but also as a workshop space and intimate conference space. The artists would like to invite peers and the public to collaborate on ongoing pieces.

Alongside those practical ‘share&make’ events we would like to initiate round-table discussions about what it is like nowadays to practice as a midcareer conceptual woman artist.

The following events will be taking place, in which all are welcome to attend:

Saturday 18th & Saturday 25th June, 1-3pm – Experimental Drawing Workshop

Wednesday 22nd June – 1-3pm – Mini Symposium – ‘How to survive as a (woman) conceptual artist’

Friday 24th June – 6-8pm – Closing Party

We are a charity supporting the development of artists and the visual arts in Coventry
Coventry Artspace was incorporated in 1991 and became a charity in 2009.

We run arts projects and events and provide services to visual artists that live or work in Coventry and the surrounding area. Our core work is to provide affordable spaces for visual artists to work and exhibit in, and opportunities for their development.

We also seek out further opportunities to raise the profile of the visual arts and artists through partnership projects with other organisations in the city and beyond. Through these projects we look particularly to build community and wellbeing in the city and extend engagement with the visual arts.
